TANDEM: Advancing Dance Through Innovative Training

During 2024 we had the pleasure to be part of TANDEM, a professional training program that combines artistic production, academic education, practical experience in the live performance sector, and the acquisition of new digital skills applied to the performing arts. TANDEM was funded under the Erasmus Plus Programme of the European Union, as a VET partnership between the Italian DNA dance company and Mediagrammi e.V..

Tandem was a 12-month structured course during which a selected group of young dancers underwent specialized training and gained practical experience in the creation and touring of a triple bill.

Notably, TANDEM was featured in the 2024 CRUDO Festival in Bologna, Italy, where the DNA Company presented a triple bill with choreographers Sharon Fridman (in collaboration with Tomer Navot), Adriana Borriello, and Elisa Pagani.

In Berlin, Mediagrammi organized a workshop aiming to equip participants with skills in new technologies applied to dance research and staging. In this intensive Video Dance workshop, led by dancer and choreographer Niv Melamed, participants engaged in both choreographic composition and film production. The group was divided into small teams of three to four individuals, collaboratively exploring the roles of director, choreographer, and dancer. The objective was to create choreographies as physical narratives designed for the camera. Throughout this process, themes such as dance in relation to urban spaces, the city as a source of movement inspiration, and constantly evolving scenography have been explored. Peripheral areas have been examined as places rich in visionary suggestions. A fundamental aspect of the work was the improvisation between dancer and operator, progressively refined to achieve a cohesive choreography.
